Reka-Luca Jani, Lenka Jurikova successful in the second qualifier round –Budapest Grand Prix 2011
Qualifying sixth seed Reka-Luca Jani of Hungary came back from a set deficit to defeat Bosnian tennis pro Jasmina Tinjic 0-6, 6-1, 6-4 to advance into the final qualifying round of 2011 Budapest Grand Prix in Hungary.
Ranked 224th in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings, Jani made a very shaky start to the match. Unable to get any timing on her shots, she committed a large number of unforced errors in the opening set. Tinjic took
complete advantage of her opponent’s inability to score easy points and made her pay heavily by breaking the serve three times in the set. The Bosnian also had no problems holding on to her serve games as she claimed the opener to take the set score lead 1-0.
Jani, who looked down and out at the end of the first set, made a sensational come back in the following set to force the match into a decider. Raising the level of her game, she turned the tables with regular breaks of serves.
Showing her never-say-die attitude on the court, she made her rival’s game play look completely ineffective. Placing her forehand and backhand winners superbly, she dented Tinjic’s confidence levels. Jani converted the very first set point to shift the balance
of the contest.
In the final set, she continued to display some high quality. Breaking the serve in sixth game of the set, she earned a crucial 4-2 lead. The Hungarian then held on to her game score advantage to complete her remarkable victory
in a match that lasted for nearly 2 hours.
Jani hit a decent 61 per cent first serve and she also converted seven break points in the match. Her defence was rock solid as she claimed more than 55 per cent of the points on receiving. Tinjic on the other hand started very
brightly. However, she lost the track in the second and third set and couldn’t recover from the crucial blows inflicted on her by her opponent.
In another match of the day, number three seed Lenka Jurikova eased past Andreja Klepac of Slovenia 6-1, 6-3 to move on ahead in the qualies.
The Slovakian tennis-pro made a very confident start as she broke her opponent in the very first game of the match. Using her excellent foot work and strong ground strokes, she pocketed the opener in blink of an eye. The second
set also followed a pretty similar trend as Jurikova dominated almost all aspects of the game. Hitting a wonderful serve ace, she ended the match in style.
