  1. outlinig your three questions:

    1. which way to go: civil or mech.?

    2. which course has more departments? (in my understanding, which course has more subjects for masters, right?)

    3. can you come back to aero sector after your mech. engg.?

i'm currently studying under second year of civil engineering in Mumbai.

to your first question, civil is a better branch because its importance is on a roaring high and will be paramount in the next few years, making it an ultra high-payed job. its easier and more fun for a person who's good at mechanics and calculations.

to your second question, civil has a vast variety of topics, each having its own importance and application and therefore has great scope for further studies and even research. i don't know about what mech. offers after graduation.

as i'm from civil, i don't have any answer to your third question.

    best of luck!!

Choose a job you like and you'll not have to work a day in your life- Confucius.

  2. I suggest that you should choose mechanical in contrast with the answer given previously. Mechanical too has more diversified departments and you could do your PG well there. Not all colleges have all specialisations and hence you should look out for colleges which have the subject of your interest. Before you select the major now, just browse through colleges from IIT to any small college where you can find the various speicalisations you have. Mechanical is wide area compared to civil. Since, you have expressed interest for GRE after graduation, your aim is to move abroad and I believe, as a mechanial engineer you will have good prospects in coutries like Germany, Switzerland which are strong in the mechanical engg. You could surely return to aero if you do mechanical but I am doubtful abt getting back to aero with civil....hope i have given you some idea....good luck...
