Question:

Relationship with CO2 and Temperature?

Today we are told that CO2 increase means an increase in temperature from the media. However, I found this article, link included below from respected scientists who claim something different. What your opinion?

  1. hi, I was interested in this topic too so I followed your link. It was very interesting so I checked the background on the site to make sure it was verifiable... unfortunately what they don't mention is that co2science.org is heavily funded by exxon mobile :( I found this out using the site desmogblog.com, it is revealed in an article about Dr. Tim Ball. another good source checker to keep handy is sourcewatch.org

    happy researching!

  2. CO2 acts two ways, it causes warming by the greenhouse effect and it is also caused by warming, as warming ocean waters release CO2.

In the past warming started naturally, and CO2 followed many years later as it was released from warming ocean waters.

This time CO2 and warming are going up together.  It's one more proof that this warming is not natural, but is actually caused (mostly) by CO2.

Note that the article is 8 years old.  I'll bet if you talked to the authors now, they'd be dismayed that someone is using their historical study to try to deny global warming today.

  3. As the earth heats up more Co2 is released from the sea resulting in higher Co2 levels. If for example we excepted the theory that Co2 causes temperature increase then we would expect to see temperature increase after major volcanic activity, however we don't.

If the increase in Co2 caused the increase in temperature then surly we would see the increase in temperature from the top of out atmosphere down to sea level. However we don't.

I short the global warming fairy tail has been picked up by politicians who want to be seen as down with the kid. It is also a very convenient way of raising taxes to cover poor economic planning.

  4. All scientists agree that at present the Earth is warming up , and many say that the rise is happening faster than ever before.

What scientists disagree about is the cause of Global Warming.

There is a correlation between CO2 levels and temperature  while others claim it is more to do with the Sun (http://solar-center.stanford.edu/sun-on-...

At the moment there is no definitive answer, only finger pointing. It is true to say that the majority of the scientific community are blaming CO2 and other greenhouse gases... but they still could be wrong.

  5. I still think that CO2 is a major factor in Global Warmimg.

It has been proved too many times now.

  6. If you look back through history and all the core samples etc, the CO2 levels have always lagged the earth's temperature. The warmer earths makes carbon dioxide come out of solution in the earth's waters; it's not the other way around. Mr Gore plots CO2 and temp on a scale that makes them look like that change one for one. He's data is flawed.

  7. Did you see 'The great global warming swindle' on channel 4 a little while ago? if not look at www.greatglobalwarmingswindle.co.uk. They say on there that in Al Gores film he shows a chart of co2 rising followed by temerature rise but in fact the co2 rise actually follows the temperature rise (if that makes sense). If you did'nt see it, get a copy it was brilliant, another good one is 'Earth story' with Aubrey manning, it isn't about global warming, it's more about the earth, how it started and how it works, but it does kind of answer questions about what causes global warming.

  8. You notice the only quote from the paper concerns the observed time lag between CO2 and temperature coming out of an ice age.  Then the "what it means" section is entirely conjecture from the web site author (written and reviewed by whom?) - the original paper doesn't make any claims about current CO2, just report the time lag.

This is an often used problem used by critics of global warming to suggest it is not true.  In actual fact it is entirely expected that CO2 should lag temperature during transition phases.  It is not a straight forward cause-and-effect but a feed back - variations in the earth's orbit produce a small amount of warming (initial temp increase), this results in the oceans releasing more CO2 (warm water dissolves less CO2) but the oceanic mixing takes about 800 years.  Then CO2 takes over as the amplifier of the sun's energy and oceans continue to warm and more CO2 is degassed.

Funny also how this "centre" is also funded by Exxon...:

  9. CO2 does nothing as GOD put plants here to recycle our air . Therefor there is just a few parts per million and the plants growth is accelerated so the plants will get control of the CO2 shortly. The plants need the CO2 as much as we need oxygen.
