Question:

Relative strengths of opiates?

I had been taking vicodin for pain relief and it did next to nothing, so my doctor prescribed darvocet with lorazepam. Everywhere I read on the internet, i see that darvocet is weaker than vicodin. Will the lorazepam increase the analgesic effect or just relax the muscles? If the darvocet doesn't work and the lorazepam doesn't help much with pain, should I increase either one or take sumthing else?

  1. Always try to avoid too much dependency on opiate medications because they turn a sober person into an opiate addict. That is just one of the reason why a certain opiate medication stops working after some time and then the dosage has to be increased. In your case it will be better if you can provide additional information in regards to :

    1. How old are You ?

    2. Since when are you taking opiate medications ?

    3. What other opiate medications have you taken prior to Vicodin ?

    4. What was your daily dosage of Vicodine and in what quantity ?

    5. How many dosages of Darvocet And Lorazepam are you taking now ?

    6. Very Important. Where do You have this pain the most ?

    7. On average what do You do all day ? Your daily activity ?

    8. Do You consume any alcohol ? And do You smoke ?

    9. Any other medication You are taking currently for something else ?

    10. What is your regular diet like ? including how much water you drink daily ?

If You may mail this information to me I did be able to at least guide You much better instead of suggesting a strong opiate which may harm you directly or indirectly in the present or future time.

Wishing You A Good Health !

  2. You need to keep track of the amount of acetaminophen your taking in that is mixed with the vicodin and the darvocet.

Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in tylenol, continous use of maximal doses for more than 10 days can cause serious liver injury.  The injuries add up over time, and alcohol use makes it occur earlier.

If you wait for symptoms of liver disease to develop before stopping then you have waited too long.
