The dems are too busy suggesting it be raised.

The politicians who support suspending the Federal gas tax are engaged in the worst form of pandering as the savings would be small.  In addition the tax goes to pay for road, highway and bridge repairs.  The estimate in todays dollars is that we need billions of dollars to maintain and improve our road systems.  If the tax was suspended the money for road repairs would have to come from some place else or maybe you think we should have more bridge collapses like the one in Minnesota.

Actually the Congress, both side of the aisle, are talking about raising the tax as Americans are driving less so the highway fund is not getting as much money as they need.
