Relief pitcher Joel Peralta re-signs with Tampa Bay Rays – MLB Update
Relief pitcher Joel Peralta will be once again throwing for the Tampa Bay Rays for two more years as he has been given a fresh contract on his recent past consistent performances.
Retaining a good player is always a very good strategic approach for any Major League franchise and the same approach now Tampa Bay Rays has implemented to do well in the next outings.
Peralta, a seven year veteran in the big league, performed certainly well during the 2012 MLB season and achieved the desired confidence level of Rays.
He finished this season with 3.63 ERA along with two saves, 84 strikeouts and 0.99 WHIP. On the other hand, his career 3.94 ERA along with ten saves, 407 strikeouts and 1.14 WHIP is also enough to understand Peralta’s extraordinary game.
“Some teams offered a little bit more money, but I got what I thought I was worth and I was happy with it, I didn't want to go anywhere else," Peralta told a media source from the Dominican Republic and explained about the details of his fresh contract with the Rays.
Sources also say that Joel Peralta’s contract is still subject to pass a physical while this potential deal is worth $6 million for two years.
The contract also comprises on an option for 2015 season worth $2.5 million.
Experts believe that this is a healthy sign for the Tampa Bay Rays as they re-signed Peralta for few more years.
He is a consistent performer and considered one of the best players in the league. His presence will make things more competitive for other teams when they will face Peralta’s fast and curving pitches.
Like this past season, in which the Tampa Bay Rays played much aggressive and outplayed many leading teams during the regular season, their aim is high for the next season as well.
They will be looking forward to do well in the coming season. This year, the Rays finished with 90-72 win-loss along with .556 winning percentage. This was a good and improved result from their American League East Division mate Toronto Blue Jays.
