Relief pitcher Matt Albers shining bright for the Boston Red Sox in bullpen role – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox had an injection of new blood in the off-season and spring training called on most of the new members of the organisation to showcase their abilities on the field. Relief pitcher Matt Albers has been shining bright for the club thus far
and he is looking to be a solid induction in the side. The most impressive skill he has got in his arsenal is his ability to avail grounders on his two-seamer deliveries.
"He's looked pretty good from the opening day of Spring Training," said manager Terry Francona. "I think we love his two-seamer. I think that sometimes it's a pitch where, even if the hitter knows it's coming, if he keeps it down, they're going to hit it
on the ground. I think we've been impressed. With all the competition we had for bullpen spots, he clearly made a statement by the way he pitched."
While Alfredo Aceves and Hideki Okajima did not get the nod for the 2011 Major League Baseball season, Albers got the approval of the club to head into the team for a major role.
"On the way to the office, [pitching coach] Curt [Young] said, 'Don't worry, it's all good,'" said Albers. "The way I was throwing, I felt pretty good about where I was at."
The relief pitcher explained that he was glad to pitch the ball well and make his way to the main squad.
The veteran Albers has been involved in the American League East circuit before and his three seasons with the Baltimore Orioles stand as a testament to that fact. He knows how to carry himself in the region, as he told the press that he thinks his inclusion
is nice.
He clarified by elaborating that there are good hitters in the division, which brings out the best experience. He said that there is less chance that one will be intimidated by the batting order. Albers concluded his statement by saying that he knew how
to deal with some of the hitters in the region.
