Reliever Mariano Rivera shows desire to return to New York Yankees next season – MLB Update
New York Yankees' veteran closing pitcher Mariano Rivera is showing desire to play in the next Major League Baseball season.
Sources also say that he has also spoken to the Yankees' general manager Brian Cashman that he wishes to return in the next MLB big competition.
Rivera is considered one of the most iconic individuals in the Yankees' roster. Since his arrival in the league, he did not play for any other franchise.
In recent past season, he did not play much as well. He suffered the whole season with torn ACL and sat on the bench.        
However, he still showed some resilience and achieved 2.16 ERA along with five saves, eight strike-outs and 0.96 WHIP.
“Rivera contacted us and wants to play,” Cashman told a major newspaper.  
He added, "I got a call from him saying he wants to play, I'm not surprised. It's now up to Cuza and me to talk on the phone and work the details out. At the end of the day, we'll do that. He wasn't certain; now he is.  His knee is doing fine, No concerns. We look forward to having him back."
Earlier speculations were on the rise that Rivera might not return in the next season. Speculations also said that he is going for early retirement as his latest injury placed him in a very narrow position.
Meanwhile, now his latest desire and a meeting with Yankees’ GM is certainly great news for all the New York fans and its management that he will be playing for the side next season.
Rivera is a 17-year veteran in Major League and possesses extraordinary skills. He has been performing with great consistency for past many years now. His career ERA of 2.21 is quite consistent along with 608 saves, 1119 strike-outs and 1.00 WHIP. This also makes him one of the most consistent relievers in the Major League Baseball.
In his illustrious career, he has been selected All-Star twelve times and won five World Series Titles with the Yankees.
1999 he was declared World Series Most Valuable Player Award and also American League Championship Series MVP award in 2003.
