Reliever Ryan Madson signs with the Los Angeles Angels on a one-year contract – MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels has signed free agent relief pitcher Ryan Madson to a one year contract. The deal reached just hours later when sources told the media that the Angels are not interested anymore in giving Zack Greinke another deal.
Madson did not play the last season with his injury problems but he is a good Major League player and possesses extraordinary skills. His career stats are consistent and he is currently considered one of the best relievers in the league.
Madson, a nine-year Major League veteran, holds a good career record with 3.60 ERA along with 52 total saves, 547 strike-outs and 1.29 WHIP.
His potential new beginning with the Angels is also a great sign for his game. During his past relationship with the Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds, he proved himself with best of his abilities.
Starting his career from the Phillies’ organisation, Madson never showed any loop-holes in his game. According to different past reports, Phillies should have not traded him as back then during (2003-2011) he certainly outplayed many opposing batters and saves numerous crucial games.
On the other hand, early in the month, a few sports websites already had speculated that Madson will be making his way into Angels’ roster.
Earlier there was also a speculation that Madson’s former team Phillies is also interested to sign him but later news came out in media that Philadelphia’s front office has not agreed to sign him again.
Instead, they have brought in a young player Kyle Simon after trading Jim Thome to Baltimore Orioles.
“He’ll be knocking on the door for the big leagues soon, He’s got a sinker that hunts ground, It’s almost unbelievable how he can get a ground ball, He can sink the ball as good as I’ve seen. Guys just have trouble getting the ball in the air off him. That’s a huge asset,” said Dusty Wathan about Simon as he managed him at Double A Reading and recently in the Arizona Fall League.
Coming onto Madson’s new beginning with Angels, experts believe that both sides will be benefiting each other in the next potential season.
