Religion, Mythology & Television question...?

I watch a lot of Sci Fi and I have noted that often they talk about Religion on other "Worlds" and such. Specifically in one show Star Gate SG1 the Ori or (Origin) or even Star Wars the Force.

Do you think that if we discovered other words, races and such or vice versa they too would have a different outlook on faith? Some may have it, others may not, and some may accept some of ours.

My bottom line question is this, How do you think OUR plant would react to another World with a UNIFIED Faith or Science where we have such diversity?

How do you think our societies would handle it?

No answer is wrong, I am just curious. This is fictional so use your imaginations.

  1. Assuming a unified faith is sorta like assuming a unified country. Just because we are all Americans does not mean we are all the exact same American.

I think that the faith/science of other races would be obviously different in many ways, but I do tend to believe that there would be more than a few races where the merging of science and faith would not be considered improper. If God can make a fish, then understanding how a fish works and lives and whatnot (its biology and ecological surroundings) would also give me insight into why I believe the way I do, or should (since it would be rather ridiculous to say that God made a fish but that science is the Devil's work, etc etc.) I also think such races would look askance at us, finding it difficult to see why we hold them separate (never mind why we hold human being separate or men and women separate, etc etc etc.) To them, we would be hopeful but very much like children, with a long way to go to reach our full developmental potential.

  2. I agree with Sangre. Christian missionaries would be running to take the message to the aliens. I could even see a religious war because of it. <sigh> But, then again, perhaps the alien's missionaries would be running to teach us about their religion.

  3. As a free country our society would not have a problem with this.  Having said this however, there would be some from the far right Christians who do not accept any Religion that does not adhere to what they believe and they would go bananas.  These groups would immediately attempt to convert them to their own beliefs. As for the rest of the world, I believe they too would have some problems with such an extraordinary unified faith whatever it may be.  I for one hope I will be around to see such a scene.
