Religion?............... anyone?

Question

im confused about religion i mean there are so many types of religion i mean i have some sort of faith but some how the whole god things seems kind of strange ....... dose anyone else feel this way and what do i do.. i dont want to go to h**l if there is a god but i dont want to waste being devoted to this one thing

Well, I am not a priest or pastor, but it has always seemed to me there has to be a higher power who has created or unleashed all that the world has become.  When I eat chocolate or drink a beautiful red wine or see the mountains of North Carolina, I believe it even more. As you noted, there are many paths towards understanding and worshiping God. I have chosen the Catholic path as I believe that Jesus Christ existed and was the Son of God, and the Apostles of Jesus Christ were the first Catholic priests and the tradition has continued unbroken since the time of Christ.  The most important religion to me seems to be Faith, as no one except Jesus have been known to come back from the dead, so we will not know what happens to us. All we have is Faith, so find a religion or path that best reinforces for you that Faith in a higher power.

almost any inward looking person eventually asks the really important question. Once you ask it you then spend the rest of your life with this question in the back of your mind. Trying to answer it, of course, is a very daunting task. Those who claim they have the answer . . . . .don't, although they might actually believe that they do.

Get past the idea of guilt, or punishment, or reward and you then ask the other big question; is LIFE good?

From what I see it would be impossible for life to be all bad . . . I even suggest it is more good than bad, so the issue for me is how to follow that path . .  the rest will take care of itself. Good luck.

I was very confused too, and eventually decided there was no God, at least not the one in the bible.  The more i learned about its past, and the contradictions, and all these questions that no one could answer, i basically said gave up my faith as my sacrifice one Easter and never looked back.  Eventually came to Paganism, and all its wonderful flavors, and all of them generally as accepting of eachother today as they were over a thousand years ago.  We don't argue, we don't fight amongst ourselves.  Because difference of religion is not a big deal, really.  As long as you respect a pagan's religion, he will respect yours.

Firstly, the only reason why you think "religion" is strange is because this is the way you think about it.........as a religion, something man-made. My way of life is Islam. Anytime I get those strange thoughts of there not being a God I just look around me and see God's signs present. Glory to Him.......did you ever think about how you came about? Did you ever wonder about how the bird leaves in the morning on an empty stomach not know where their food will be yet coming back in the evening full? Taking one step towards God brings Him much more closer to you. The evidence is all around you, you just need to take that next step to come closer to that truth we ALL yearn for.

I don't think that any god would want you to worship him/her/it out of fear of going to h**l.  Religion is a personal thing that is entirely up to you.  Please don't let someone tell you who or how to worship, choose that yourself.  You must do what makes you comfortable within the laws of your state, province, etc.

Look at it this way, if God exists he is likely to regard himself as a pretty important thing. To paraphrase C S Lewis,  either Christianity is true, and it is of infinite importance, or else it is false, and it is of no importance. The one thing Christianity cannot be is moderately important.

Well pray to God and ask for guidance. I believe God answers prayers of all people, despite religious beliefs. Ask him to show you the truth. During this, read up on different religions and try to find something that makes sense to you. While observing, though, keep reason and rationality on a high.

I hope your search turns well. There are many, many options and paths, but you will find the right one for you if you're truly seeking. Ultimately, it doesn't matter what religion you're apart of, but the truth you have in your heart. May peace be with you.

you sound very young, as well as confused..... my advice is to not rush into anything..... but study as many types of religion and beliefs as you can.... see what makes you feel 'peace' inside you.... if it's a Christian religion, then you'll fit in ... if it comes down to you not buying into organized religions, then you'll be a little outside the norm... if you feel it's all baloney, you'll be among friends.... but an outcast in 'polite society'..... if you tend toward the oriental stuff, Karma, Budda et al, you can pretty much relax and enjoy life, too.... but LEARN what it is you're going to devote your time, energy and MONEY to, FIRST.... don't just jump in just to have SOMETHING.... you gotta know it to love it..... I hope you don't have to spend too long in study, but find your path soon.....

I was confused for a long time and I tried everything from paganism, and magic to not believing anything at all. I now attend a Christian Church of God, and I am happier and more spiritually fulfilled than I ever was before. I do believe there is a h**l, but there is also a heaven! Good luck!

It sounds like some things just don't make sense to you.  And how could they when every idea conflicts and contradicts.  I'm not going to try to tell you what you should believe, because that's your decision, and a private one at that.

Read.  Talk to people.  Make up your own mind, and make sure you are satisified with the answers you've received.  Don't let anyone pressure you into accepting an idea you are not comfortable with.
