After reading someone's question about a twin flame, I am baffled by the absurdness of Astrology. Like our birthdate and place in the Universe have anything to do with our personalities or life path. Doesn't it make more sense that we are here by pure dumb luck as all life would be? In time, be forgotten as life we never existed at all.

Astrology is the study of the influence that distant cosmic objects, usually stars and planets, have on human lives. The position of the sun, stars, moon and planets at the time of people's birth (not their conception) is said to shape their personality, affect their romantic relationships and predict their economic fortunes, among other divinations.

  1. we have life, thats enough reason to live.

  2. Why would we not have a purpose. Think about it a random big bang and animals/then humans came.

This cannot be explained but we should be here for a reason we just have'nt found out what it is.

  3. Astrology, and numerology, are ridiculous.  They are hold overs from when people knew nothing of science and were grasping at anything to make some sense of how the world worked.  When ever I hear someone say, as an explanation of something they do or have said "I'm a Libra" or whatever, I always think "Are they serious?"  For most people it's a joke, checking your horoscope in the newspaper(*), like reading the fortune in your fortune cookie.  While people who believe in these things might not be technically insane, they certainly aren't looking into this part of their lives very rationally.  As to a purpose to human life, religion aside, I see purpose humans have given themselves, the pursuit of knowledge and truth, the drive to explore.  The quest for fairness and dignity for everyone.  You don't need a religion to hold high ideals and expectations for the human race.

*Who writes the horoscopes?  If it was legitimate, wouldn't they all say the same thing?  You would look at Venus waning in Aquarius and say, "Scorpio's are going to have a hard time financially", but in fact, horoscopes vary wildly, almost as if people were just making it up. (wink)

  4. Every human eye has a blind spot, and our brain hallucinates and fills in for what we cannot see. The same goes for our conception of life and it's purpose. When we reach the edges of our understanding through proof and science, we begin to speculate. Our eagerness to believe that there is something bigger than us (e.g. God, astrology, etc.) might just be evolution's way of making sure we have something to live for. Astrology is just a guess of how the world works. I still believe in an afterlife of some kind. I can't help it! I'm only human, haha! Anyway, just my opinion, interesting question.

  5. "Religion aside," how can any sentient being ever find a purpose?

  6. I definitely don't believe in astrology.  I don't think we have a purpose.  We are just here.  But if we want to keep on being here, we'd better take better care of this planet and cut back on our population, IMO.

  7. There's no reason to think we have any purpose whatsoever, and are just fulfilling the expectations of evolution and survival. We don't think other animals have any purpose, so why believe we have one?

We might have a purpose, there's just no reason (currently) to think so..sadly.

  8. Our scientific purpose is to balance the biosphere of the Earth, and to be part of the chain of organisms and cause & effect.

Then, our biological purpose is to mate and reproduce, sounds too simple.

  9. Astrology is just a remnant of a more geocentric age.  The prevailing view in the past was that humans are special and that Earth is the most important place in the universe.  Science is slowly correcting this view.

  10. Dumb luck? Now wonder you wouldn't allow religion in the answer.

Without a believe system it cannot be answered. It would be the same as being stranded on an island with no purpose.

How pitiful you must feel if that is all there is to life.

  11. inventions all have  purposes. why create that has no purpose? if we had no purpose we would have already been destroyed by nature. we obviously have a purpose because we are pretty stable beings. and if we were there just for "decoration" or w/e i doubt we would survive.

  12. If humans just left the planet, there would be a lot of things here - with no purpose either.

Buildings - just empty, Books that no animal can read,Artwork - why?

And very likely a lot of genetically modified crops or animals.

Why do horses exist ? are they particularly good for the planet?

I could say that planet earth is some kind of huge food factory that passing aliens can stop off at and replace supplies, but I don't fancy going into cold storage myself. If a fleet of ships does appear in the sky and invite us for dinner - don't be supprised.

  13. I agree with Cabot, it all comes down to procreation.

But I define my own purpose and do not share it with others, human or not.

    Good luck

1st edit:  In addition, the fact that we have survived for so long and have become the dominant predator on our own planet communicates that we have a purpose.  Our purpose is survival, but in our day and age survival has become clouded by the delusion that we should have lofty goals like making a lot of money or become some fake Hollywood movie star or Pop sensation...

and worst of all, we have even taken it upon ourselves that pondering our existence and our purpose and the fate on the universe and how we can master our own destinies is a purpose.

Ultimately, none of us have any control over anything but ourself.

    Again good luck

  14. At the end of the day, all living beings on earth have one purpose, and it is not philosophical:

    PROCREATION

  15. We are here, there must be a reason why!

  16. We have no purpose at all.

Further more, nothing has any meaning:

Put me down as a Nihilist.

  17. It is to make life better (not easier) for the next generation, we all will pass away, but our leagacy will remain.

The choices, environment, and our genes make who we are

  18. huh?!?!

  19. haha you want a funny answer, read sirens of titan by kurt vonnegut. great book, hilarious ending
