Question:

Religion creates division, even if unintentionally?

If each religion claims to hold the only "right way", then how can its followers accept those who follow other ways? religion will create animosity and fear among people. I see people here saying things like alcohol drinkers are evil, or those who party are sinners and things like that... I think religion causes people to judge others who are different harshly and creates a mentality of "good vs. evil" so how can it bring peace?

  1. Indeed, religion creates division, and it should, but not the divisions created by people following false doctrines of men not found in the holy books.

There is a difference to discern right from wrong than to judge others.  Judgement means you have condemned them, that there is no room for their repentance.  But whether that person repents and is granted forgiveness by Allah is between that person and Allah.

Alcohol drinkers are not evil, it is the alcohol that is evil if you drink more than a tiny moderate amount -- a tiny amount is actually healthy, but how many people who start with a tiny amount of alcohol are going to keep it tiny?  You give the devil and opening and he will find a way to take over.  So, Muslims, Mormons, and others do well to avoid it altogether and not even start down that destructive body-, mind-, and relationship-destroying path.

People are not evil, but people engage in evil behaviors or righteous behaviors, or some of each and that is what we need to recognize so that we might get rid of the evil behaviors and enhance the righteous ones.

Every religion also does not hold that there is no room for other faiths.  The Qur'an says that Allah gave prophets to all nations, and so does the Book of Mormon.  The Qur'an says that the Torah/Old Testament and the New Testament are corrupted but there is still value in them.  The Book of Mormon also says the Bible has been corrupted.  Prophecy of Islam and of the Book of Mormon are that Jews will come to accept Jesus and that there will be a religious convergence from many different faiths.  The Book of Mormon specifically says that one true religion will be created from converging the knowledge Allah gave to different religions.

The truly religious, true followers of Allah, are non-violent, tolerant of differences, endure through suffering, and work to bring healing to individuals and communities, that is how religion can create peace.  If enough people wake up and become truly true followers, it can be done.  With Allah, all things are possible, the problem is not nearly enough people are with Allah yet or are only with him part way.

  2. If everyone follows quran then there will be no more division in the world. Everyone will be united under Islam and at peace, because Islam means peace and submission to god. People following the wrong religions and sects lead to divisions.

  3. Well my personal take on my faith is that I do not pass judgement on another. I take all as they are, and if I care about someone, I try to help them improve them as a human being so that their actions won't bring harm to another so that less evil things will happen. Islam says that no religion will be accepted of a person except Islamic monotheism, however there are several hadith which shows that good people, who care for animals and enjoin in good, forbidding evil can too reach Jannah. Rather than judge another, I would try to understand them, and their actions then I won't fall into the trap of ignorance or look down on another who isn't like me. To me as an individual I think some practices are evil, however I don't judge a person who practies it, what do the Christians say "Hate the sin, not the sinner". Becuase ultimately, my judgement is little and could even be an evil on my part, so why harm myself? Islam from what I see is a pacifier to things that could cause evil, and this is why its had a hate campaign launched against it.

Another unique thing about Islam is that we can accept Chrisianity and Judaism becuase these all stemmed from revlations from God, however they can never accept Islam as a revelation fi they still wanted to accept their own religion.

I agree as long as there are so many different religions, there can't be peace. That being said, even if there was no religion on this earth... there still would be other reasons for conflict such as racism, fighting over land, nationalism, etc.

The only way this world can be peaceful is if there were no humans!

Edit: *Aj Naseer* you say 'There is only one right religion ISLAM'.... how egotistical & bigoted! It is attitudes like that which causes so much conflict.

  6. no its people that create it because they can just respect what each other believe!!
