Religious People: Why do you think atheists are atheists?

What do you think has made them not believe in your god? I'm an atheist and I'm curious. Atheists have tons of explanations towards why religious people are religious.

  1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PF6O9g6k... you really have to see this.

  2. Are you familiar with the expression: "There are no atheists on their deathbeds"?

It's an old expression that has a lot of truth in it. There are many people who don't believe that there is a God until there is a major crisis in their lives. Often,  I've heard people say that Christians are weak and use religion as a crutch but I think it's the exact opposite. There is a lot of opposition in being a Christian. Most atheists would probably not believe that but it is much harder to stand for something - other people will always oppose you and challenge you for your beliefs.

Believing in God takes faith. I have observed that a lot of atheists are looking for proof. I'm not sure that it is something you can prove. Christians go by faith. The Holy Spirit testifies to us that God does exist everyday. Serendipity is no longer chance; it is the guidance and the direction of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

To answer your question, my perception is that atheists think that they are free - free of religion, unencumbered by rules, rituals etc., possibly telling themselves that they are not hypocrites like religious people are because we still continue to do and say the wrong things. But we are still human and we still err and we are not always proof that there is a God, by our actions but we are only humans afterall. God is perfect, humans are not. Maybe this may also be a source of cynicism for atheists as well. Along with the popular opinion: "If there is a God, why is there so much suffering in the world"?

I'm not sure why some people believe and others don't. I've often wondered that myself but my observation is that a lot of non-believers feel that they draw strength from themselves and they feel strong and powerful. It's not until something happens in their lives that overwhelms them, then they realize that it never was that way and they turn to God for comfort and for strength. I'm not saying this to insult you in any way. I'm just saying that a lot of Christians were once atheists as well and then something happened in their life that confirmed to them that God does exist.

Clearly, most Christians believe that atheists are people that have not yet seen the light. Of course, this is not likely your own perception of yourselves.

  3. "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours. ”

God is just a Santa Claus for adults.

  4. They are reading Atheist literature

They never got their childish prayers answered

They have not known real Love

They have not tried to find the obvious truth

    They are not listening

They have not been given grace because of their obstinate hearts

    They twist truth

They have been brainwashed from an early age in school

They are living in a fallen world

They are allowing dark forces to influence them

They are being lead by Atheistic Governments

take your pick either way you look at it , it's only a lie feeding a lie.

  5. we are not zoo animals, were human beings, how about you ask us directly, or better yet search for the question cuz its asked like every day

  6. I'd say there is no 1 reason, it could be for a whole variety:

    1. bad experience of religion

    2. not agreeing with the one religion they know and thinking that atheism is the only alternative

    3. feeling that it is cooler to be atheists

    4. not liking certain religious people and wanting to disassociate themselves with them

    5. having looked briefly at certain alternatives and decided that they know what they're all about and don't believe in it

    6.  having looked in depth at certain alternatives and decided that they don't believe it

I'm sure there are many more.

  7. It is in your nature to be an atheist. Only God can open your eyes to the spiritual. Until then you will live in a world of delusion.

  8. I really don't care how an atheist became an atheist or what an atheist has to say at any given time day or night 24 hours a day, seven days a week. What I do know about atheists is that the time is near for God to destroy them.

  9. We Atheists became atheists because we came to the conclusion that God does not exist. This is after weeks/months/years/ of researching and questioning.

Not one real Atheist decided to become an Atheist in a second.

  10. Religious people don't want to admit that atheists don't believe in god because of a lack of evidence, because that would shake their own beliefs.  So they say stupid stuff like atheists really do believe in god but say they don't because of whatever motivation.

  11. Because they're not good God-fearing Christians! It's obviously a mixture of heavy metal music, homosexual parents, and families failing to go to church on Wednesdays.
