Question:

Religious belief query?

I studied RS last year, and I remember being told that some religious people believe that if you are disabled you must have done wrong in a former life. I disagree with this (personally). But does anyone know any more details, such as details of anyone who has acted on this belief, or which religion believes this? I'm studying this subject more in depth next year possibly, so I'm just interested. Please answer (sensibly only =]), thankyou x

  1. Christianity does not hold this as true.

  2. I think you are referring to reincarnation.

It is quite wrong in relation to Bible teaching, as I am sure you know. The Scriptures tell us that Jesus will return to raise the dead  --  the resurrection.

  3. I read a spiritual book a couple of years ago and it said that those who are disabled in any way choose to experience it as one of their life lessons. we all have something to learn in each life we have on earth.

I think it is probably christianity or more like roman catholics who believe this, not 100% sure.

  4. It was a common belief in the time of the Savior YAHOSHUA.that handicaps are the result of sin.  See John 9:2.  I don't know if anyone holds this belief now.  Some of the eastern religions that believe in re-incarnation used to hold to that belief, that we reap the results of previous lives.

  5. Most religions that believe in reincarnation say that what we are now was determined by a previous life.

Jesus said 'Not so' and I go with that.

    Life is not a rehearsal/

  6. We are all left to our own sin. God does not punish sinners. He corrects us.So anything we suffer is a result from sin, but not punishment.

  7. i am disabled i do not believe that i am this way because of something in a former life. God does not work that way. He is merciful and just. what is happening to me in this life is something that just happened. maybe it was to be able to understand others and to help them.

  8. I got talking to a man recently who used two walking sticks to get about. He told me that his brother, who had been in a wheelchair for over a decade was going to be healed at a prayer meeting.  I asked why he, himself, wasn't going to be healed too.  He told me that as he had suffered since birth, it was god's doing, but as his brother had been injured in a car crash, he could be helped by god. The fact that his brother had crippled two children in the crash and had been drinking, didn't seem to be a problem!
