Question:

Religious people only care about themselves, right?

They only have faith in order to achieve a place for themselves in heaven.

Some piously claim they can also save others but by their own rules only the the individual concerned or their god can do that.

Is there a reason why we should give such selfish people any ability to influence law and social norms, whatsoever?

  1. Wrong

    100% wrong, in fact

  2. Yeah, real selfish people that created the Red Cross, Salvation Army, The old Brewery mission (house for the homeless), certain food banks and churches having food drives, Christmas baskets and meals on wheels. Darn them them and their selfishness.

Religious people also have a tendency to give more from their pockets to secular and non secular charities. And we don't keep  people hostages at food/homeless shelters. Because I volunteer and we give food and those who want to listen to "preaching "can , those who don't well hang out at the tables. FYI- Some people find it therapeutic to pray in desperate times. If you help people, you are accused of doing it for own benefit, and if you don't you are a hypocrite. Catch 22, much?

  3. I can only speak for myself as a religious person.

This is what I care about:

People in general used to think concepts of God and

absolute truth were simply obvious and was not taken

for granted - that American leaders should have very moral

personal lives and strong belief in the God even as Deists or whatever.  The mindset used to be so unbelivably

different than it is today.  It is called indoctrination of the masses

by Charles Ingersol and others that secular humanism produces

the most freedom for all but this is NOT how America became

great - it became great because of the solid morality we used

to have that included belief in God and not all the mixed up stuff

we have today.  It is no wonder that teen pregnancies, murders,

child molestation, etc. are at all-time highs - there was almost

no such thing as child molestation before the 60's when prayer

was taken out of school and before the sexual revolution!

Root of our problems:  IN s*x WE TRUST! AND IN OURSELVES

    WE TRUST!

"Separation of Church and State" has nothing to do with our

constitution, only mentioned one time in one letter and in

a completely different context than it is now used.

We have things (in US and in other places) completely

backwards and it will only cause further moral and spiritual

    problems!

I care about the USA and other people because God is the only

answer to everything - He created everything and knows how

    things should be.

I have personally seen the propogande - people think they see

more clearly but statistics say far the opposite!

An unbiased look at history and crime will show that we

are all heading the wrong direction at this point and it will

    catch up with us!

  4. So you think the only reason we have faith is to get a place in Heaven?  Wow, you truly do not understand how life-changing becoming a Christian is then.  How it changes us right here and right now.

No, I can't save others, who would think that?, but I can tell others about God, I can even use words.

Who should we give the ability to influence laws and social norms, those commanded to love one another, or those who feel no obligation to do so?

  5. Those charitable organizations that someone named were not only created to help people, they were also created to proselytize. Get the desperate people in where you can hold them hostage, preach to them, and then give them food.  How much more selfish can you get?

  6. Littlest and arewethe have good points. You're obviously prejudiced against anyone who is religious. I think you're pretty pious yourself, friend.

  7. Boy are you a cynic. Those are your personal beliefs, most of us do not share them.

  8. no. i care about everyone and i am very religious.

  9. Well, the definition of Christianity is to love your neighbor.

But it's too bad that the church experience appears to be a little gossip club of its participants.

But it's no crime to want to avoid the wrath of God with damnation. Nor to have a relationship with his Son, - and do as He leads.  I've shared the good news with others, - but I can't 'save' anybody. That's the work of the leading of the Holy Spirit.

  10. You are incorrect.  And a bit of a judgmental douchebag.

  11. And what do you do that makes you so self-less, do you give your time to sing to the homeless and retarded?? How many misson trips have you been on, I've been on two this year. How much time have you given to help people this year??

You calling me self-ish is EXTREMLY hypocritical my friend.

EDIT-Just because you sit on your lazy --- all day instead of trying to help people, means you are completly selfless right? You have a warped veiw on the world my friend.
