s*x, as humans practice it, is for enjoyment of the partner, worship of the gods, and procreation - in about that order.  When I was younger I did tantric and kuma sutra with my partner.  In its purest form, s*x is the outward manifestation of our feelings toward our partner and, by extension, of the Creator who gave us the capacity for those feelings.

Religiously speaking, s*x is reserved only for marriage, and God will punnish those who use it the wrong way.  It is for bringing kids into the world, and because god means for kids to be born into stable family's there are serious punnishments for using s*x outside marriage.  

Once married, A couple is commanded to have s*x, It is described by god's prophets as the fire that welds a couple together, it is also the fire that will burn a person's soul if it is used outside marriage and used the wrong way in marriage.  It should be used to keep a couple together and in love with each other.
