  1. Told by who exactly?

EDIT - If Fireball told me to kill my family, I'd tell her to seek help and get some meds.

  2. Of course they will, you know how many people were killed in the name of Christ. Look at the Crusades, as long as it's not Christianity it's blasphemy, kill 'em all... right!?

That's just wrong, Christians have done so much wrong.

  3. I wouild because God is love and he loves all.

  4. If they were told to do it out of the blue next to none of them would.  Maybe one in a ten or hundreds of thousands.  However, that's not how it's done.  There's a psychology behind overriding someones basic survival instincts and protectiveness of their family.  You've seen it again and again by various splinter sects and cults. To get people to follow your word to that extent takes far more than just a command to do something. To imply that the average christian or any theist really would is pretty insulting in general and is no different than the sweeping accusations that get made against atheists by some extremist Christians.

If the conditions are right people in the right mindset can be manipulated into doing almost anything... see Jonestown, Waco, Manson, etc.

Edit: In the example you're using it's unfair to use the Salem witch trials, inquisition, or crusades as proof.  The people who participated in those were largely not motivated by religion but by politics, greed, and personal gain.  (Eg: report neighbor as witch to take over their property after a percentage was given as tithe.)  There are plenty of good examples like I mentioned above, but those aren't it in this circumstance.

  5. I'm already told not to by God.

(Exo 20:13)  Thou shalt not kill.

So, anyone telling me to kill someone should be taken as a false prophet.

  6. dang, another hypothetical question.

Um...well, I've never tried a violent killing spree before.

Can I start in your neighborhood?

  7. *Yawn.*

We've just sent a case to the jury. A young woman is accused of snuffing (literally) her baby.

Brothers killed their parents. That was just a year or so ago.

    It happens all the time.

  8. i wouldnt kill ne1 in the first place.....

  9. No. What you are talking about is A TOTAL ABERRATION of anything truly Christian.

  10. One great difference between Atheism and Christianity is that while Christianity is a historical religion,  Atheism has never changed both in visage and attitude down the centuries, making them so predictable in their rantings they come out ludicrous( and to think today they love to wrap their faith in evolution around themselves).  Christianity on the other hand has evolved down the centuries in its basic understanding about the God who called them and their moral relationship with peoples and things around them.

What's the point in bringing back the events in  Salem and the Spanish Inquisition when these two represented specific Christian reactions to perceived evil hundreds of years ago?  At that time, the world was different and people had a different view of life. They interpreted their Christian duties towards others of different persuasions in a way so reflective of their state of consciousness.  Today, Christianity is still as committed to upholding their faith and combatting the works of the devil with the mindset and sensibilities of 21st century humans.

Christianity today is aware of excesses in the past, but these are considered excesses when viewed from the point of view of today.  Instead of being ashamed of its past, Christianity accepts them as part of its growing up process, the same way we made embarrassing social gaffes in childhood, actions we took because at that time it was the only way we knew how to do.

  11. I THINK YOU NEED TO FIND GOD
