Question:

Relocating back "home" to Guatemala after 15 years in US.?

Hello, I have just heard word from the US Gov. that my family and I must leave the US due to the loss of our Political Asylum case, in US Federal immigration courts.

I have lived in the US for the past 15 years, have a US high school education, and have knowledge of both English and Spanish.

I am hoping to not have to return to the city my family originally fled, when I was a small child. My hopes are to see if anyone can offer me any leads to finding inexpensive safe housing and a job (remember I am Guatemalan).

I am in the process of researching my options to obtain duel citizenship (due to my mom being El Salvadorean) to see if this will enhance my opportunities. I believe I will have some financial assistance from American friends, but I would like to make it on my own, if possible. Until I can seek to re-enter or get my fiancee petition processed.

Thank you for anything you can help me with, as 15 years is a long time.

  1. Check out the help wanted columns in the Guatemalan newspapers to give you an idea about employment.  The link below will take you to a classified search engine where you can browse for jobs in one of the largest newspapers:  Prensa Libre.

Inexpensive housing may not be safe.  If in the capital city, stay away from zone 1 as this is rather crime ridden.  The southern and eastern parts of the city are safer and more Americanized, if that is your comfort zone.

  2. What do you want to do ? do you want to work in guatemala?, well, in guatemala you can work in a call center like Transactel, or many others, they are giving work to billingual people, in this case when you arrive to guatemala, you can search it in the newspaper pensa libre.

  3. I think the first thing is to find out from yur state's counsel well the Guatemalan /counsel if then can help you and how.

or Do yo have any Guatemalan Friends?

it will be very hard if you have no one back home even friend to give you a hand.

go on line and search the newspaper for jobs el periodico or la prensa libre and see what's in it maybe you;ll find a job there you speak and write english and spanish right that should be a great help

    can yo help me here?
