Does any one have a Cost of living index that will help me with this potential transition? I intend on leaving my family here in the states (wife agrees if offer is right) and moving to Dublin, Ireland for about a year. Do you have any information for me that would help me in making this decision?

Thank you very much

  1. I lived in Ireland all last year.  Its one of the most expensive places in the world!  I was making good money in US standards but still couldnt afford a house or flat there.  Dining and food is also very expensive.  Most things are 30-80% more than in the US.  Transport is also very expensive.  Car insurance is robbery, as is the 5euro price per pint of beer!  Rathmines is a good area though.....

  2. REALLY EXPENSIVE. Everything from groceries, petrol, car insurance, housing, transportation to a night out.

    Good luck

  3. Start saving... you need to take out a small loan to go on a night out. Cost of living is really expensive, especially rental in Dublin. Try not to get sick or anything...because you will be waiting on a trolley in the car park of Accident and Emergency for three days to get a broken leg seen to.Our government love the high life, (taking helicoptors to the opening of off-licences, taking 4 week holidays to exotic destinantions at the expense of the tax payer, but sure we cant begrudge them that, didn't it only take them a week to get all the child molesters that they initally let loose on the streets, rearrested and locked up again). But sure, please god, they'll be gone next election, and we might get an actual human running the country that will get things done, instead of a mumbling eejit who loves his pint of Bass. On a brighter note , Dublin is a great place to live, nice people, great nightlife and the oul Dublin charm. Just beware of the traffic....

  4. you may be shocked if you know combo menus at BK or Mcdonald cost around 6 euros...

  5. Its a great place to live....property is a bit expensive though, I would suggest renting, and I wouldn't suggest living in the actual city, I'd live in one of the towns near it, howth, sutton, portmarnock, malahide etc. For a more, "posh" place, live on the southside, anywhere is really an easy commute!

  6. If the job is in Dublin try and rent close to the DART (train system) it is the easiest way to get into Dublin and most cost effective. To give u an idea of how expensive it is the price of a gallon of gas (in ireland its called petrol) is about $6.10 a gallon. Thats one of the reasons its called the rip off republic.

Remmber you can always leave and come back to the US. It is a great city and country with great people who love life . If I were you I would go...It;s looks good on the resume ,and nothing ventured nothing gained..would like to know your decision when you make it!!!!!!!!!!!
