Hi !

I am in the process of relocating to Dublin and have been offered a salary of 60K euro from my new company .

Please let me know of what u guys think of this salary or should i negotiate for more (though unlikely)considering

-cost of a small 2 bedroom in Dun Laoghaire for a family of 2 with no kids and single income

-Also are there a few things in which companies should help like first year taxes ? etc

I would be relocating from Singapore

  1. Dublin is a very expensive place to live, and Dun Laoghaire is a very expensive place to buy a house. The north of the city has houses for sale on estates that were corporation housing that are now in private ownership and could work out cheaper to buy. There would have to be a health insurance package built in for relocation as they do not have free medical care or dentistry.

€60K I would say is on the low side (£40K) in a costly country.

Then there is motoring costs, high insurance and petrol and diesel costs.

Clothes  and food are more expensive than the UK.

Some people that live near the border to Northern Ireland cross over and buy some things that are cheaper there as that is part of the UK. Credit card charges are high as are mobile phone costs. The city centre has its problems with the influx and migration of eastern europeons taking over a lot of the jobs in shops, bars, hotels and transport which has kept the wage rates artificially low for those workers but that will backfire and the country will suffr if those worker pack up and leave.

I don't want to put you off as it is a beautiful country. The thing is, a single wage might not (will not) get you a mortgage to buy a property

  2. It depends or your skills really look at monster.ie or irishjobs.is for salaries for comparative jobs.

At that sort of money you'd be looking at paying about 25% tax and PRSI more info from revenue.ie

For cost of housing - renting is still expensive, Dun Laoghaire especially so - look at daft.ie for rental prices but figure €1500 per month for a 2 bed place anywhere in DL, less in neighbouring areas, but you might have to go 2-3 miles away

Really what seems a lot in Singapore won't buy that much in South Dublin

  3. Why don't ya relocate to Ballydung instead? We have an opening for a farmhand and general dogsbody.

Salary is 40 euro per week (don't tell the taxman) and bed and board.

Sure what more could ya want?

  4. im not sure what you do so cant comment on your salary but most companies offer a relocation package for shipping your furniture etc

  5. You'd actually be much better off buying a house to live in, because then you'd get mortgage relief.

60 K is pretty good, I would think, but houses in Dublin are expensive to buy - which is why you should do it, and think of it as a long-term investment.

Jefe: Not all Irish are heavy drinkers. Just the few that hang out where you are.

  6. The salary sounds like plenty of money in Dublin. You'll be covering the cost of living, and your raging alcoholism. I mean, since only drunks live in Ireland. I'm kidding, of course. But you WILL need to save some money for attorney's fees for when you get arrested for driving drunk, or public drunkenness. I'm kidding. Just make sure you budget your money to allow for the bar tabs, because you don't want to spend grocery money on Guinness and Bushmill's. Kidding. Your job will most likely help you out with your medical expenses when you go to rehab. Seriously.
