I am thinking of moving to Halifax from Toronto. For current residents: what is it like to work there? and raise a young family?

  1. Halifax is really nice my parrents love and all the other adults seem to like working here there are definitly lots of availible jobs around, most people can even to walk for a bit of morning excersise. Halifax is also getting a bit more expensive so people are starting to move to the surronding areas like dartmouth, which is still nice and close to everything, bedford, sacville, scotia (fallriver and waverly) and the county area which older and smarter people then me call the timberlea area its really nice in all those areas but some of them like scotia and county seem a bit more like rural areas but theyre less than a half hour drive to downtown halifax. Dartmouth is really nice its super close to halifax and infact i can see the halifax skyline and the macdonald bridge and like citadle hill and all those places in halifax right from my school in dartmouth and somtimes during lunch me and my friends walk over to halifax and eat lunch so its like living in halifax its just cheaper. As far as schools go there pretty nice here the kids are overall pretty good no big mean bullies lol um halifax just got a brand new school this year and its so nice citadle high omg its amazing its so big and they have all the nicest stuff. all the other schools are nice too there saying theyre going to make big renovations to dartmpouth high so thatll be nice again, finnally and the elentry schools are great like accually amazing we have a slightly different school system here than in toronto cause im pretty sure u guys have elementry from pre k to grade 4 middle is 5 to 8 and then senior but we have elementry from p to 6 then jr high as 7 to 9 and then senior so that might be a change. Ther are lots of good daycares around as well as lunch and afterschool programs for elentries also we have a good french program if ur interested in that we have some really nice private schools too like sacret heart and halifax gramer oh and ambre

there are lots of recreation and sports programs for kids of all ages here i atarted playing soccer when i was four and im stll playing the soccer programs are great so r the basket ball, softball and well there all great another interesting sport thats big here is paddling alot of people from this area end up at nationals somtimes worlds we even have somone who went to the olimpics so thats pretty cool.

The crime rates are low too also halifax is a really nice looking city lots of trees and flowers the buildings are like perfect the streets are clean ur gonna love it here

  2. Halifax is a nice city, I guess it is all relative to where you are moving from. Halifax does have one of the highest crime rates in Canada, surprisingly Nova Scotia does have a higher crime rate than Ontario! According to STATS Canada in 2006 (last report), Nova Scotia had 8069 crimes with 1135 of those being violent crimes. In the same year Ontario had 5689 crimes with 756 of them being violent crimes. Considering the amount of people in both I would say Nova Scotia it is not looking good for Nova Scotia.

Work there is again, compared to where you want to work. Living there would depend greatly on the area the you would live. If I was looking for a rental I would look toward Colby Village, Clayton Park or Eastern Passage is just outside the city by a few minutes, small town feeling and great for kids. Good Luck!
