Our little family of 4 - Mum, Dad, Daughter and little doggy are relocating to Hobart. We are worried about finding temporary Accommodation (on a budget if possible) and then finding a rental for 6 months or more! We are lost and cannot find any answers. Who & what would be the best place to go through, how hard is it to rent when you have previously lived in another state, if you don't have a source of income right away, but savings will they still consider you for a rental and the best place to stay with pets...any help would be wonderful and accepted with thanks!

  1. Tassie is a great place to live not sure about the rental properties at present, but could find some real estate contacts for you if you wished to email me.  Nothing is very far away in Hobart you have the eastern shore which is on one side of the river only half an hours drive into the city with suburbs like Mornington, Bellerive, Howrah, Warrane theyre not too bad - or you have many more choices on the Western Shore Northern Suburbs like Glenorchy, Claremont, Rosetta or Austins Ferry would be nice too and much cheaper probably too than ones closer to Hobart like North Hobart, these suburbs are only twenty minutes drive from the city too.  Nothing is very far away int Hobart, pretty quick and easy to get around if you drive or the Metro buses run all over the place too.  You could try looking up the ads in the Mercury for local Real Estate agents and private ads etc.

    www.news.com.au/mercury/tasmania/

Not sure how easy it would be to pick up a copy at your newsagent.  The Mercury is the newpaper for the south of the State.

    Hope this helps!  Good luck

  2. Difficult to rent without an income.

You might find a sympathetic real estate agent.

Might have to start off at a backpackers or a hotel till you have an income.

The dole is considered an income

  3. Temp accommodation on a budget could be a bit difficult to find with a pet, you may have to consider a kennel for a few days.

Good rental properties are in demand as everywhere else, you could try www.realestate.com.au for rentals through the agencies, also if you can get a copy of a Saturday Mercury there are some listings direct from owners that are not usually on the web.

Hobart is a very good city with pets with many off leash areas around. The further north the suburbs generally the cheaper the rent, suburbs like Bridgewater and Gagebrook have a higher level of socioeconomic problems and are possibly not the best choices to live.

When I moved here 3 years ago after several visits and research I chose to concentrate on North Hobart, West Hobart, Mt Stuart, Glebe, New Town & Lenah Valley. Eventually settles on Nth Hobart

    Good Luck

  4. its not hard at all and usally when you rent you have to kinda tell what youre land lord is like find one who is nice or who has pets of there own
