Relocating to north carolina?

Charlotte, NC is the best if you like "big city" life.  It is good for night life, shopping, and business opportunities... et cetera.  Wilmington, NC is definitely another great city.  Not as big as Charlotte, but full of businesses and energy.  It is also near the beach and has a historic downtown area.  It depends on what you are looking for

I just moved to Winston-Salem, N. Carolina from Indianapolis because of my husband's job. It's ok (a little small), but I would rather live in Charlotte. A friend of mine has told me that the south side of Charlotte is the nicest, then the north, then the east, and definitely avoid the west. That's where the highest crime rate is. I would prefer to move to Charlotte because it's more similar to Indianapolis (population-wise).

Another city to consider (that's entirely different from "big city" living) is Asheville. It's in the western part of the state in the mountains. I've been there a couple of times and it's beautiful. It's actually been on the top ten list of most liveable cities in America for several years in a row. In the past, it's been number 1, but now it's dropped to 7.
