Relying on a single player is foolish, believes Juventus coach Antonio Conte – Serie A Update
Juventus FC head coach, Antonio Conte, has responded to Catania’s assumptions regarding Juve being over-dependent on Andrea Pirlo. Catania’s sporting director, Pietro Lo Monaco, recently claimed that Pirlo is the key to Juventus’ play, and that La Vecchia
Signore get handicapped whenever Pirlo is marked out of the game.
Pirlo was man-marked in the recent fixture at Stadio Angelo Massimino and the midfielder accepted that he did not give his best output during the 1-1 stalemate. While talking to the media after the game, Lo Monaco said:
“They are Pirlo-dependent; it is he who makes them play. If you take him out then the others become like ants and forsake their play.”
However, Conte does not believe in the assumptions made by the Rossazzurri sporting director and labelled the statement as foolish.
“This is not true. We try to play as a team. It would be foolish to depend on one player, but Pirlo is great,” responded the Juve boss.
The former AC Milan player has been impressive in Turin so far as he has provided the highest number of assists in Serie A after the first four games. However, there were issues for the midfielder against Catania, when he was not given room to weave his
playmaking magic.
Moreover, Pirlo also claimed that they lacked the will to win against Catania as they were too soft in the first half. However, Milos Krasic helped La Vecchia Signora bounce back early in the second half, though, Juve still failed to seal the game and ended
up dropping two valuable points.
The midfielder believes that Juve should have seized maximum points from the last two games that ended in draws. The 1-1 stalemates cost the Bianconeri 4 valuable points.
Pirlo would be facing his old teammates when Juve host AC Milan at the newly built Juventus Arena on October 2, Sunday. The Rossoneri, being the defending Italian champions, are reckoned to be the favourites for the upcoming big game.
