Remaining Top Restricted Free Agents: NHL Special Part 2
Ryan O’Reilly
Canadian centre, who was drafted 33rd overall in the first round of 2009 NHL draft by Colorado Avalanche was given three-years contract that was $2,640,000 with a cap hit of $900,000 every year.
He played almost all the games of the regular season with Avalanche scoring 26 points in each of the first two seasons, potting 21 goals and 33 assists and had an extra-ordinary last season.
21-year-old, last season scored more points than the combined points of the first two seasons. Scoring 18 goals and the 37 assists, he got a total of 55 points last year which was more than 52 points scored in first two seasons. Something that can help him
earn an even better contract this time.
Clinton, Ontario, born center has also got some leadership qualities as he lead team Ontario to win gold medal at 2008 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and won Bronze medal while captaining team Canada at the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF)
World Under-18 Championship.
Jamie Benn
23-year-old, was drafted 129th overall by Dallas Stars in NHL 2007 draft. However, he signed an entry-level deal for only one year in 2008 and then the three-year deal the following season, with a cap hit of $821,667 every year.
Victoria, British Columbia born center/winger made his debut for Dallas Star in 2009-2010 season and then never looked back. He played all 82 games in regular season and scored 22 goals and 19 assists. His performance has been improving every year as he
scored 22 goals, 34 assists, total 56 points in 69 games of 2010-2011 season and 26 goals, 37 assists, total of 63 points in 71 games played in 2011-2012 season.
With his performance getting better and better every year, Dallas Stars definitely would not like to lose their emerging player and would not hesitate before signing him again, this time with a lot better offer for sure.
John Carlson
John Carlson was drafted 27th overall in the first round of 2008 NHL draft by Washington Capitals and was given an entry-level contract for $2,625,000 with a cap hit of $875,000 in the first year and $845,833 for following three years.
The defenseman was made to play for London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in the first year where he scored 60, a huge number of assists and 16 goals in just 59 games. He spent half of the next season with Hershey Bears, Washington Capitals’
American Hockey League (AHL) affiliates, where he impressed again with 35 assists and four goals in just 48 games.
22-year-old’s performance earned him a call from Washington Capitals mid way through the 2009-2010 season in which he played 22 games for the Capitals and then played full 82 games of the regular season in the next two seasons. His stats easily suggest what
made him not miss a single game for Capitals in last two seasons and that would become the thing because of they would not like their key defenseman to not-become part of their future plans.
