Remat ZALAU sweeps Euphony ASSE-LENNIK in pool play – 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League
The Remat ZALAU of Romania played against the Euphony ASSE-LENNIK of Belgium recently in the preliminary round of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League- Men.
The two teams met each other in the Romanian city of Baia Mare. The contest that followed between the two sides did not take long to reach its finish as the Romanians were able to assert themselves after making a clean sweep over the guest squad.
The victory that the Romanians were able to achieve marked the first time that ZALAU won a match in the pool play of the tournament. Not only were the ZALAU squad able to win the match in three back to back sets, they did so by bagging each frame with a
comfortable margin.
By the time that the Romanians were celebrating their well-deserved win and the Belgians were moving out of the court with heads hung low, the scoreboard read as 25-20, 25-20 and 25-20.
The head coach of the winning squad, Mariusz Sordyl, expressed himself in the following words at the press conference that was conducted after the match had reached its close, “I am very happy for this victory. We played very well, taking into consideration
the fact that we have had little time to prepare since we made changes in the team. It is the first Champions League victory for the club; despite the fact that it might be a small step, it is an important one.”
On the other hand, the head coach of the Euphony ASSE-LENNIK squad, Marko Klok, shared his views by giving the following statements, “We hoped to win this match, but Remat is a good team, which played well all time.”
The first set of the match saw both the teams lock horns together in a tough battle at the start. However, the ZALAU squad fell to making errors and started trailing behind. But before things could get out of hand, ZALAU managed to pull itself back in the
game and bag the opening set. Once ZALAU won the first frame, the next two came easy and they sealed the deal over their opponents in no time.
