Question:

Remedies for seasickness?

I am going on a 45 minute ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard for vacation and the wind speed is supposed to be about 15 mph. I don't think that will be enough to make it too rough, but I still would like to make sure I don't get sick.

I will probably take Dramamine, but I would like to hear about some other remedies you have tried (and have found to work).

I have heard of wristbands that have pressure points, but I have never tried them.

So any suggestions or products you have found?

  1. club soda

  2. When are you going?

Its cold here in New England its too cold to vacation now.

  3. my mother used the dramamine wristband when we went on our cruise and she was amazed at how it worked. she was never seasick once.

  4. Drink 2 beers really fast. This will off set your equilibrium.

It works. I was on a fishing boat in 8' seas with 10 swells, vomiting all the way. I drank 1 beer really fast then a second.

5 minuets later I was fine. This works, my husband used to take charter's to the Bahamas from Florida for diving trips. Everyone whom drank never got sick, those who did not drink had their heads over the rail the entire 8 hour trip.

  5. Ginger capsules will work, but fresh ginger is the best.  The kind they serve with sushi.  It's also great for helping your immune system and health in general...

  6. take a dose of your Dramamine the night before and the morning of. eat something small ( just to have something on your stomach ). if you can stand peanut butter in the morning, a slice of toast with peanut butter will do the trick... have a great time!!! HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!!!!

  7. I deal with this stuff every day at work. For the woods hole ferry, you're going to be in mostly protected waters- expect a smooth, smooth ride.

    1) Bonine (non-drowsy anti-seasickness medication, over-the-counter)

    3) Ginger root capsules (work surprisingly well)

    4) Peppermint tea, peppermint gum (for short trips like yours)

    5) belly full of saltines, with minimal liquids.

    6) flat, room temp coca-cola or cold ginger ale.
