Remedy Rule claims Women’s 200m backstroke gold: Day four – YMCA National Championship
Remedy Rule of Waynesboro-VA claimed gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on fourth day of the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship at Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Center on Thursday, July 26.
The 15-year-old Rule stifled hopes of her opponents in the distant backstroke discipline as she cruised her way towards the finishing blockade for first position.
With her unmatchable pace, she remained in a lead of half body length over her closest rival and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 18.22 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Maggie Miller of Elkins-WV, who stayed 0.47 seconds slower from her and tapped the finishing wall for second position with an effort of 2 minutes and 18.69 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Ali Galyer of Middle Tyger-SC, who remained 0.41 seconds slower and settled on the victory stand for bronze medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 19.10 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was secured by Lindsay Temple of Somerset Valley NJ, who remained 0.42 seconds apart and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 19.52 seconds.
The 16-year-old Temple was followed by Morgan Carr of Huntington-WV, who was only 0.22 seconds behind and made her way to the finishing blockade for fifth position by hitting the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 19.74 seconds.
Carr was chased by Emily Launer of Kishwaukee-IL, who was two body lengths behind her foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 21.81 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh fastest spot of the discipline was secured by Annie Gillig of Middle Tyger-SC, who stayed almost half a second behind and reported a time of 2 minutes and 22.34 seconds.
Subsequently, Gillig remained two body lengths ahead of Meghan Lavelle of Leaning Tower-IL, who tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 24.07 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Rule was pleased with her performance in the four-lap backstroke discipline and said that she would work harder in order to represent her nation at the Olympic Games.
