How many of the original six players who were not the stars but signifcant role players do you remember. Players like Eddie Shack, Chico Maki, etc.

Bonus Q. Handing in my resignation, do you think this is a good icebreaker: The biggest mistake I ever made not including the phrase ' So what do we tell your husband" was coming here?

  1. Doug Harvey, one of the top 3 defensemen of all time.

Pit Martin, Sid Abel, Ted Lindsey, Red Kelly, George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Dave Keon, Sid Howe, Blackjack Stewart, Syl Apps, then in the 60s Eric Nesterenko, Pat Stapleton, Carol Vadnais, even Derek Sanderson briefly.

Sid Abel, Red Wings and Hall of Famer, famously said in the 40s or 50s "We play hockey for money, but we'd play the Maple Leafs for nothing", such was the hatred between the two teams.

    Hockey has a rich history.

  2. Bob Pulford, Terry Sawchuck, Allan Stanley, Pete Stemkowski, Reggi Fleming, Wayne hillman, Bobby Hull and Ab McDonald.

  3. john ferguson was my babby sitter in the 1940s  , fred cyclone taylor , lived same bloxk , uncle plated westren hockey league , american hockey league . gump plated goalkeeper c p rail soccer team . eddie , millinore , fergie millinorere . both delexsic .

  4. Since I remember Bill Barilko this question could take me a long time to answer or a long way down memory lane.

The first NHL player I ever met was Ronnie Hurst. As a 20 year old playing for the junior Marlies Ronnie played summer fastball (Softball in those days) for our local men's team. My father also played on that team. Ronnie played a few years with the Leafs in the fifties. His linemates on that energy line were Rudy Migay and Billy (Hinky) Harris.

Other role players of that era include Vic Stasiuk, Doug Mohns, and Jack Bionda (Lacrosse Hall of Fame) of the Bruins. Kenny Mosdell, Eddie Litzenberger, and Eric Nesterenko of the Black Hawks. Dutch Reibel, Marty Pavlich, and Billy Dea played for the Red Wings. Some Rangers of those days were Lou Fontanato, Andy Hebenton, and my favourite Camille Henry. And of course there was Floyd Curry, Phil Goyette and Claude Provost of Les Canadiens.

Thanks for a trip down memory lane.

I remember playing Ball Hockey (we didn't play road hockey the roads were still gravel so we would play at the school yard) and I would pretend to be Doug Mohns. He was the first player that I remember that played both defence and forward.

  5. I only know a hanful of guys but Toe Blake was a star as was a guy like Doug Harvey.

Bonus-Very good icebreaker but look them in the eyes when you say it.That goes a long way.How aboot for you,the Leafs fan-"Now I know what Wendel Clark and Mats Sundin felt like with sh***y management running a company".something along those lines.Good luck cme and please email to tell me what happened.

  6. Eddie Shack played from 1959 - 1975 and was not an original six. You are thinking of Eddie Shore.

Other than that, not a big oldies fan, but i know a bit about the old leafs due to watching games on leafs tv from like 1960's

  8. I remember my Grandfather telling me about Rod Gilbert, Vic Hatfield, Andy Bathgate, Doug Harvey, and Gump Worsely.

    (I'm only 22 so I don't remember first hand.)

    (Obviously we're Ranger fans)

I think that certainly lets them know that your serious ha ha ha. Are you going to follow it with more compliments?

  9. Whom ever was playing during the 1974-75 season applies for my answer. I can remember Chico Maki. And Gordie Howe applies in a roundabout way. h**l, let's throw in Bobby Hull too.
