Now that it's about to mess up the Republican Convention, should we take this as God's endorsement of Obama?

  1. Since when is a video producer for Focus on the Family spokesperson for Focus on the Family. I believe that would be Dobson.

  2. Serves 'em right.

  3. Wow.  Now that's kind of extreme.  For the record, as a Christian, I strongly disagree with this method.  And no, I do not take this as God's endorsement of Obama.  It's a shame these folks are doing this.  But who knows what God thinks about this election.  People only assume and believe that God is on their side?  God knows what's best, I trust He will help the right candidate into office.  Even if I don't like that candidate.  The right man for the time is needed.

  4. okay, well that defiantly seals the deal for me!!! i'm POSITIVELY voting for McCain now...cause if Obama has views that are more like that of a satan worshiper, i defiantly wanna go the opposite way!!!!

  5. We need to look at the character of Obama and of McCain and their running mates to help us decide.  McCain has chosen a very good running mate who is against abortion and g*y marriage.  I go along with that.

However, Obama was involved in some corruption along with a good friend, Tony Rezko.

  6. I don't think of it as an endorsement of Obama.  Just God appointing a vessel of dishonor to give this country what it deserves since it has turn its back on Him.

But its still not over.  Can't second guess God.  It's interesting to just watch it all unfold.

  7. Why yes. I think we should. It's probably because of the smear campaign that's been going on against Obama. God got tired of all the lying.

  8. I wish those who support Focus on the Family would think about things like this more. But that's just a dream they are to busy being activists for a theocracy and being anti-g*y. Yeah I am voting for Obama but not because "god" endorses him but because he is more close to my beliefs.

  9. Oh yes, they did.  I wrote to them myself, ironically explaining to Focus on the Family that my Christian values no longer allowed me to support them or any other hateful organization.  Anyone who asks a Christian, who is to love even their enemies, to pray for something bad to happen to another Christian, is very much in the wrong, "joke" or not.  I wonder if they would joke about a tornado destroying Dr. Dobson's home?

And, for that matter, why would any organization focusing on the "family" support a guy who cheated on his first wife with his current wife over a man who speaks openly about his faith and has been faithful to his wife and children?

As for God's role, I don't think He is punishing FotF or the Republicans in general (to be fair, a lot of Republicans denounced that video).  It is a coincidence, and if He wanted to, he could douse the site of the convention.  Why beat up on New Orleans again?  Makes no sense.

  10. They've prayed for far worse things than that.  Luckily, they've struck out every time.

Edit - Uh oh... time for somebody to start backpedaling... (glances down...)

  11. No.  Coincidental rain does not prove that God exists.

  12. No, we should be gracious and simply welcome them to Minneapolis.

EDIT: To those who claim the asker is wrong - yes, FOTF did tell people to pray for rain. See the second link.

  13. 'deed we sshould.

  14. They actually did, people. Then they claimed it was a joke and everyone took it the wrong way.

You can still find it on YouTube.

I, personally, think it's either yet another piece of evidence that god has terrible aim when it comes to smiting, or evidence that Christians are bad at weather magic.

    Edit: Thank you, Chris.

  15. Nah. You know Christians.

They'll just say that it's proof that Satan is supporting Obama, and God is testing everyone's faith.

The one good thing about evangelicals is that they are extremely predictable.

  16. I certainly hope so!

  17. LOL @ FotF. What a bunch of crackpots.

  18. Works for me ;-)

Edit:  For those who are so stupid that they don't believe that Focus on the Family could/would do this, here's a link to the video that they hastily pulled when it started to be criticized:

I used to live in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where FOTF is based; those people are the worst of the worst, and they deserve all the humiliation they got as a result of their mean-spirited behavior.

  19. If we follow their logic, we have to take it that way..

    Also:

Since the xian fundies applied Hurricane Katrina as a judgment from God as well.. should we take this hurricane as a judgment against the Republican party?

  20. It's like when Mullah Pat Robertson prayed for god to kill a supreme court justice and about a year later Rehnquist kicked it.

  21. I wish more religious people would stick to things like praying for rain, instead of like, voting.

  22. I would say that praying to destroy some group's convention, wasn't anything I was ever planning on doing anyway.

I'm sure you're far more aware of things than to assume that every Christian adheres to the activities of "Focus on the Family"

  23. You are making that up. I don't about "Christians," but Focus on the Family never did any such thing.
