Question1:  I was overseas for a few months in 2001 and my wife (girlfriend back then) wrote in a daily journal that she intended to give to me upon returning to the states.  In one particular entry she happened to mention that she tanked up at $1.21/gal.  I sometimes go back to reread that entry just to put things into perspective with other things I might be taking for granted.

Question 2:  Good way to save on fuel?  Keep steady contact with your friends and get to know your coworkers better.  Alot of people will soon begin thinking more about carpooling.  Also, budget and prioritize everything you deal with (time, money, needs, wants).

buy hybrid cars and if it is short distances walk or ride a bicycle. And ya, taking public transport is also a good way.

Get ALL of your shopping done in one trip. Instead of making 3 or 4 trips to the store each week, make a list & get it all at once.
