In 1959 you also had one worker per household, a black and white TV, no air conditioning, no computer, one car per household, no computers, nuclear testing going in Nevada, etc, etc.

Have we had shenanigans with monetary policy?  Of course.  But it generally only affects people with large savings policies.  Most younger people in the US have horrible savings habits.
