Remi Bizouard wins Night of the Jumps in Ostrava – 2011 FIM Freestyle MX Championship

The ninth round of the International Motorcyclist Federation (FIM) Freestyle Motocross (MX) World Championship, Night of the Jumps, saw France’s Remi Bizouard walk away with top honours after putting up a spectacular show for the fans and judges alike at the CEZ Arena in Ostrava, Czech Republic, on Saturday, November 19.

Chili’s Javier Villegas had to settle for runner-up place, which proved to be sufficient to help him in holding on to his top position in the Championship. Czech Republic’s Petr Pilat finished in third place to complete the podium.

The former two-time FIM World Champion, Bizouard, has been in a remarkable form this year, with the UEM Freestyle MX European Championship title to his name already. He brought his form with him to Czech Republic to continue his campaign for the FIM Freestyle MX World Championship title and dominated the qualifiers to make it into the Night of the Jumps Final.

Despite facing a formidable line-up of riders, the Frenchman managed to hold his own in the Finals. He had 10 minutes to impress the judges and that is exactly what he did through a flurry of outstanding tricks. The sensational run comprised of a Kiss of Death Indian air combo, a one-handed Hart Attack, a sideshow to side-saddle landing, a back-flip Indian air, a super-can holy air/Indian air combo, a Shaolin back-flip, a huge flat-liner, a KOD tsunami flip, a back-flip no-hander, and a big, race-style whip. The run earned him a score of 427 and carried him off to victory.

Villegas unloaded a series of spectacular stunts as well, but fell short of the required score and finished with 417 points. As a result, he had to settle for one spot below Bizouard on the podium.

The local-favourite Pilat treated the crowd to an exciting performance, but was only able to get a 395 from the judges. The points, however, were enough to earn him third place and put him on the podium.

Ecstatic over landing a place on the podium, Pilat said, "I did it! I'm finally on the podium. I'll prepare maybe two super-crazy things, but it's like maybe a little bit secret so we will see."

France’s Brice Izzo rounded out the fourth position after earning 376 points, while Spain’s Jose Miralles finished in fifth place with 374 points. The 2010 FIM Champion Libor Podmol of Czech Republic had to settle for sixth place after finishing with a over-all score of 535 points.

With the conclusion of the ninth round of 2011 FIM Freestyle MX World Championship, Villegas held on to his No.1 place in the rankings with 156 over-all series points, while Bizouard sat in second place with 135 points. 124 series points put Miralles in third place on the series rankings.

The series will next head to Danzig, Poland, where the 10th and 11th round will be held from November 26-27.
