The 46-year-old is disappointed with Lyon’s Coupe de la Ligue exit at the hands of OGC Nice and feels that Les Gones’ defence was very poor last night
The Rhone giants bade goodbye to their dreams of lifting Coupe de la Ligue after an impressive looking Nice registered a 3-1 win over Remi Garde’s side on Wednesday.
Les Gones completely looked a different team from the one that defeated Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League not many days ago. The Ligue 1 outfit failed to show their true colours at Stade Municipal du Ray and were punished for that in the end.
Nice were fortunate to get a penalty very early in the game but Lyon can make no excuses for their poor performance last night. And OL coach, Remi Garde has expressed his disappointment at the loss and feels that his side took the opposing team very lightly.
While talking to reporters, the former France international stated that the penalty really complicated things for his side and it was hard for Lyon to get back in the game. Les Gones conceded three times from the set pieces which is a worrying factor for
the coach.
"I think the penalty they were awarded was pretty severe, and it really complicated the beginning of the match for us but we conceded three times from set pieces, and we couldn't bounce back. We started too calmly and in doing so handed Nice a rod for our
backs.”
Criticising Lyon’s defence, Garde said that his side’s defence was really poor last night and Les Gones didn’t play with the necessary aggression on the pitch.
“We were catastrophic in defence in the first half even though we created some promising moves in attack but we lacked good decision-making and aggression with the final ball.”
On a question regarding returning http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Du-c11689 Ray considering the fact that he has just returned from an injury and it’s a good sign for the club.
“Yoann Gourcuff turned in a good performance after long weeks out with injury and its good news."
