Remi Garde disappointed at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 defeat – Ligue 1 news
After their first defeat of the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 campaign against Stade Malherbe de Caen, Olympique Lyonnais coach Remi Garde is regretting that his team failed to set the pace for other sides in the division.
The defeat means that Garde’s side are now in third place in the Ligue 1 standings and trail leaders Montpellier by two points. While talking to the media, Garde pointed out that nothing really differentiated the two sides before the expulsion of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408
in the first half.
The Frenchman earned his first-ever red card after he brought down Romain Hamouma in the 42nd minute. Benjamin Nivet easily converted the penalty kick that substitute keeper Remy Vercoutre could not save.
Garde accepted that his team was relatively quiet in the first half and were not commanding the game. “We did not know or could not find the resources to set the pace. We gave the opponent a chance to find their rhythm. It was a frustrating half,” the Lyon
coach said.
Remi Garde said that with a view to the game, he made changes to the team because he wanted all players to play some role to the team’s development this season. Lloris’ expulsion meant that Garde had to take someone out of the game and unluckily it was Gomis
who was withdrawn. The French striker has been on song for this season and his substitution meant that Les Gones were left with no striker who the midfielders could focus their game on.
However, Remi Garde is not overly disappointed at the result and said that the first defeat of the season could prove to be a blessing in disguise for his team.
“On Hugo (Lloris), I am worried because he rarely makes any mistake and it worries me that he will not be playing in the next game. However, I’m lucky to have Vercoutre in my side and I am confident in him,” Remi Garde said when asked about the goalkeeping
dilemma following the suspension of Lloris.
Lyon will now host Girondins de Bordeaux in Week 8 of the Championnat at the Stade Gerland and Garde would be hopeful that lessons have already been learned from the away defeat at Caen.
