This season, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 but are also set to miss out on Champions League qualification for next season. One can say that Remi Garde has had a mixed first season as coach of the Rhone side.
However, if one looks more deeply, it is clear that Garde has indeed done a great job with a club that had failed to win any silverware in the last few seasons.
When he was replaced for Claude Puel, President, Jean-Michel Aulas had given Garde just a one-year contract. In the space of just a year, the French tactician has given club a real hope of good things to come.
However, reports in French media claim that Jean-Michel Aulas is set to give the talented manager an extension of two years which would keep him with the club until 2014.
Le Progress claims that Garde is also keen to accept this offer.
A few days back, Garde did have a meeting regarding his future and said that the discussions had gone well.
“Everything went well but there are some details that need to be refined,” says Remi Garde.
After three years of heartbreak under Claude Puel, Lyon have found a coach who by every means, epitomises the spirit of Lyon. A club, that lost its identity, has shown signs of returning the club to where it belongs in Ligue 1.
Though it still remains to be seen whether some fans would be happy over the decision, one can definitely say that Aulas had done a great job in keeping hold of a talented coach who has done an amazing job with the club in his first-ever experience of managing
a top level side.
Though Les Gones will not feature in the Champions League next season, Remi Garde would be working really hard to shape the future of the club behind closed doors.
As things stand, Les Gones are set to play in the Europa League next season and Garde would be looking to use that competition as a platform for rebuilding the side.
