Remi Garde talks about his ambitions and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yoann-Gourcuff-c37416 – Ligue 1 news
Recruited by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 with a Lyon side that failed to win any trophy during the three-year reign of Claude Puel.
When Garde took over the coaching position at Lyon, the club lacked an identity and things have changed considerably this season. Despite not being given ample transfer kitty unlike his predecessors, Garde has built a squad that will surely be competing
for top honours for years to come.
Upon his hiring, Jean-Michel Aulas had made clear that Garde’s only target would be to guide Lyon to the UEFA Champions League for next season and things have gone according to plan. Despite recent setbacks, Les Gones are still in a great position to contest
for an automatic Champions League berth.
While talking to the media, Remi Garde revealed his personal goals for the league. “Finishing in the top three is necessary. I do not forbid talking about the title and we will work for it. It is not a taboo word for us but I do hope that by the end of the
campaign, we will not be far away from the title.”
Garde also said that he is hopeful of not losing out many players due to injuries and suspensions ahead of big games.
With a limited staff, Garde needs his best players to play sides at the top of the table and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international, Yoann Gourcuff certainly falls into this category. The 25-year-old made a big money move to Lyon from Bordeaux last season yet failed to impress
in his maiden season.
Ahead of the new campaign, the former AC Milan player was injured and has only recently returned to first-team action. After five months out injured, the Frenchman played the games against Nancy, Real Madrid, Lille and Saint-Etienne. His performances in
those games were far from satisfactory which led many to believe of his role as true Number 8 to be too exaggerated.
However, Remi Garde is not really worried about this. The French tactician said that he is not worried about Gourcuff’s form as he is sure that the playmaker would return to his best after some games.
“Of eleven players, there are eleven different personalities. There are times when things are difficult. Gourcuff wants perfection and wants to score goals. When for some reason he is unable to do that, he gets frustrated which is natural. Frankly, there
is no mystery behind Gourcuff,” Garde said when asked a question about Gourcuff’s form.
Delighted to have his player back, Remi Garde is keen to get the best out of Gourcuff who will play an important role in the club’s effort to win some silverware this season if he returns to the form that made him such a big star during his time at Bordeaux.
