When Jean-Michel Aulas chose Remi Garde as the coach of Olympique Lyonnais last summer, the sceptics anxiously waited to see how a young coach with zero experience of coaching a top Ligue 1 side would help to recover a club that had lost its identity under
Claude Puel.
Now, it is clear that apart from the shocking defeat at the hands of APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League, Les Gones have done fairly well under Remi Garde.
Hard it may seem, Lyon do have a chance to play in the Champions League. What’s more exciting is the fact that Remi Garde has guided Lyon to the finals of the Coupe de la Ligue and Coupe de http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 and US Quevilly respectively.
Certainly, Aulas made a great decision by naming a coach for whom Lyon is a part of his life.
While giving an interview to Progress, the young tactician spoke about his disappointment at not being able to take Lyon further in the Champions League. Garde feels that he still feels that he could have done more to avoid the scenes in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cyprus-c2881.
“The disappointment is huge. The match has long haunted my nights. I wondered if I was not mistaken in what I could have done or said before.”
Happy to have turned the tide, Garde is still being cautious about his future. The Frenchman was given a one year contract by Aulas and it is likely that the Lyon supremo will hand him an extension when the season ends.
“I am very well here. I have at least the opportunity to continue and this is crucial. I have read and I saw (what Aulas said). And that means everything to me. It’s rewarding. I will meet President Aulas soon. I know nothing and have no career plan. When
I see the passion and energy decreasing, I might leave.’
With two finals to be played at the Stade de France, Remi Garde will have enough passion and energy to end the club’s trophy drought.
