Last night, in a Ligue 1 encounter against relegation-threatened Nancy Lorraine, Olympique Lyonnais managed to secure only a draw at Stade de Gerland. Throughout most part of the Ligue 1 encounter, Les Gones looked far from the side that has done so well
in its previous Championnat games.
However, coach Remi Garde feels that his side was also hard done by the performance of the match referee who should have awarded his team a penalty in the 54th minute of the game after Lisandro Lopez’s strike was clearly handled by a Nancy defender.
Despite the Lyon players’ protestations, a penalty was not awarded and Remi Garde strongly feels that the decision simply changed the complexion of the game. The French tactician maintains that his side had all the means to win the game but also admitted
that his team did not play as well as it usually does.
“I think we had the means to open the scoring. If we were given a penalty, it was very logical. This was the turning point of the match. Yes, we had the means to win, but tonight, we were unable to win. Let me say one thing right away. Let me talk about
what’s wrong and I want to say that my team did not work as well as it usually does.”
Indeed, Les Gones were not themselves against the Lorrain-based outfit. Bafetimbi Gomis, who has been so clinical in front of goal in recent games, should have given his team the lead in the 35th minute of the game had he been lucid enough. And,
Lyon could even have been left chasing the game by two goals had Lorraine strikers shown more composure in front of goal.
However, Garde still claims that his side deserved a penalty during the game.
“We deserved a penalty during the game, it was the whistle. I hope that we get a right call in future, anywhere, and during our next game.”
Lyon travel to Paris on Sunday to face Paris Saint-Germain in what would be a big game at Parc des Princes and Garde would be hoping to see referees play more attention to their http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 in that encounter.
