  1. Long-action is designed to use the longer shells like the .30-06 Springfield and those based on the .30-06.  The short-action is designed to fire shorter shells like the .308 Winchester and the .223 size rounds.  In other words the short-action is just a smaller version of the long-action Remington 700.

  2. in my opinion short action is better because it offers larger calibers and more accurate shots.

  3. example 270. win and the 270. wsm. The 270. wsm has a smaller sized bullet in length but has more power and velocity. its more like a magnum

  4. Negative.

Rem 700 comes in three sizes.

    Short Action (308, 243, 223)

    Long Action (30-06, 270)

Magnum Action (300 Weatherby Mag, 375 H&H Magnum)

So, you ask which one is better? It has to do with cartridge case length. You don't need to worry about it at all, just select the cartridge you want to shoot and Remington provides the correct action length to you.

  5. Weight is the major headache of longer actions.
