Question:

Remington 870 Why do my shells jam up in the chamber?

I use 2 3/4" federal target loads at the club and Remington 3 1/2" BB for goose hunting (no reloads) I have had a jam every 5 or 6 shots science the gun was new about 1000 rounds ago. I keep it clean and well oiled. At first I thought it might just need to be broken in then I thought it might be me so I have let a few other avid shooters at the club try the gun with the same results. Any ideas what the problem might be?

(the gun is still under warranty I just don’t want to send it back if I don’t have to)

  1. Consult Remington or take it to a competent Gunsmith ASAP.*

  2. Maybe its just me but if its under warranty Id send it back. If the barrel isn't machined exactly to specs it could be causing your problem. If you don't want to send it back, take it to a gunsmith and see what they say but if your not satisfied with what you bought I still say make the manufacturer fix the problem.

  3. Call Remington and let them know,or take it to a Gunsmith.

  4. if it is designed for the 3.5 shell then you need to send it back.

So double check that the receiver is for 3.5 magnums and that the barrel is for 3.5 magnums. If they aren't just be glad you are alive and quit shooting the magnums.

Also the barrel and chamber should be bone dry no oil.

The rem 870 is probably the most dependable shotgun there is. You are first person I have ever heard have this problem.

  5. I am with uncle frosty on this you need to ensure it is cambered for a 3.5" shell.

  6. When it jambs with the 2 3/4" shells are you using high quality American shot shells? Like Win AA?
