The carpet is a dark brown. Looking to put red slipcovers on the couches (they are ugly flower print now, but very good shape). What color should I paint the walls? I am open to pretty much any color.

  1. Tan. make the red...blood red, earthy.

  2. if u wanna keep it earthy and subtle, use a light green such as Green Moth

But if u wanna go for more light and airy vibe, use a lighter blue such as Inspiration blue (general paint)

or bring in a picture of the room when u get the sofas slip-covered to home depot or some paint place...wherever they have that machine that lets u try out paints on your walls with just a picture...that wuld b fun!

  3. how about a light tan or light olive color and add some decorative crisp white molding?

  4. Depending on your style you could do a silvery grey color to clash with the red couches. Do some black and white accents!

  5. A pale sage green would be a nice complement to the red -- make sure it's not a green that makes it look all Christmasy. Or a creamy or bright yellow. If the carpet and slipcovers are both solid color, you could work some wide vertical stripes into the paint job (all you need is masking tape and a ruler) and that would be super-attractive. Green and brown, or yellow and white . . .

  6. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think it would look terrific to contrast the red with a green like "greenfield" (# 6439).

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.
