Question:

Remote Desktop and Printer?

I do IT work for a medical office, and occasionally I'll get stuck on something, like this, so I need a little help. The situation is that they use their desktops in the office to do, among others, connect to a remote server (running Windows Server 2003) to do billing with Misys Tiger, and they use Windows Remote Desktop to do so. Now, they have a printer that is connected to the network (Ethernet), and the other person who set up their Remote Desktop thing was able to get that local network printer to work from the Remote Desktop session. On that server, there are many users from different offices, and they choose their printer out of many. Now, to the main part. They have another printer that they want to use specifically for certain forms, and it will be connected to a print server, since it doesn't have Ethernet built-in. What I'm asking is how to make that new printer connected to the print server work with the Remote Desktop session, and be installed on the server. Thank you.

  1. Well, taking an educated guess:

if the printer is hooked up straight to a computer, then you can simply share that printer from the respective desktop computer. The computer needs to be turned on all the time, otherwise it won't work.

The other option is to buy a wired or wireless print server. Basically it connects to the printer and has an IP address that can be used for network printing.
