Remote Sensor No Longer Works

HiI have a ceiling fan model P42 with a remote sensor.It has been working fine for at least 4yrs now until just recently. I went to turn on the light using the remote and the bulb blew. I replaced the bulb but now the light does not work period with or without the remote control.Any reasons why this has now happened?Mark
