Remote microphone?

Hey has anyone seen tv shows when you can see the little microphone on their shirt? I am currently a student making a mini tv for my school so it would be helpful to know where i can purchase them

  1. That clip on mic is called "lavaliere".

    They are typically wireless... the mic connects to a battery powered body pack that connects wirelessly to a base station that plugs into the camcorder.

    Actually, on the news shows, the mic can be wired or wireless... if wired, the base station plugs into a mixing board. In a real new show, they generally don't use camcorders - In the studio, they generally connect the camera back to a recording device (disc or tape).

    If the news person is in the field, they *may* use a camcorder... but this is way past what you need...

    The base station can plug into a camcorder with a 1/8" mic jack and the system uses UHF. Do not get a system that uses FM, 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz or 5.4 GHz as these are shared bands and there is a greater possibility of interference. VHF is OK - UHF is best.

    I use Shure and Sennheiser lavs - but you probably don't want to spend that much.

    I cannot recommend Samson - maybe Nady if it is a "diversity" unit.
