Due to irresponsible tennants leaving cat and dog locked indoors I am now cleaning up a mess. Am using bleach to clean surfaces and will be steam cleaning carpets but do you have any other advice of removing the smell of animal urine ??

  1. If you can get hold of a carpet shampooer, use it with Bissell Wash & Protect Pet Stain and  Odour cleaning formula.

This is designed not only to remove stains, but also to counter the smell of ammonia that is released when animal urine is subjected to heat.

If the stain has "set" you may have to use Bissell OxyKic Pet Odour & Stain remover.

I have personally used both of these products and have been very pleased with the results. They can be purchased from Bissell Shop Direct    ( https://www.bissell-secure.co.uk/site/pr... if you're in the UK) and all good independent electrical retailers (look for the Euronics shops)

  2. Cat urine is the worst smell ever!  You can always try cleaning with vinegar and water or baking soda and water.  I've also heard of using mouthwash, but not sure if that works.  Check out a few websites that discuss the issue.

Hope you find something that works for you!  Hopefully your next tennants don't have pets!.

  3. You should use this product it is ideal for cleaning up after pets and comes with a money back guarantee.

SIMPLE SOLUTION Stain and Odour Remover.

You don't need a miracle to remove stubborn pet stains and odours, just a Simple Solution.

More than just an ordinary deodoriser, Simple Solution completely eliminates all organic stains and odours.

We're talking urine, vomit, faeces, blood, dirt, grass, red wine,Juice, coffee, tea, baby formula and more. Matter of fact, Simple Solution works the first time, every time! Guaranteed!

I use it to clean up after my Yorkie and it does work, its available at Pets at Home,  most good Pet Shops or Online.

  4. there are products available from pet shops for this purpose. As for the smell, open windows and soapy water, should do it.

  5. yes salt and lemon juice it is very good try it and warm hot water

  6. I hate to tell you this but the carpet will probably have to be replaced to totally rid the smell of cat or dog urine because of the foam stuff under the carpet (I can't remember right off what its called). It soaks in there and it is almost impossible to get out of there.

  7. I heard that for urine on a design show that you can use vinager and that will get rid of the smell. White I think but try both cant hurt anything

  8. a heaping amount of Borax works great for me.

I have also used oxiclean laundry stain remover spray to get rid of a year old cat urine stain that the professional cleaners didn't get up.

Just spray stains wet with oxiclean and press a white towel on top for a couple hours. Thats all it takes!

  9. "kagp2006" is correct in stating you will probably need to replace the carpeting. Although it might pass with a good steam cleaning for now, come winter when the rooms are shut off from fresh air the smell will prove overwhelming. The urine goes through the carpet and permeates the padding beneath, and as another poster said cat urine is the worst.

The wood floors might be okay with a vinegar and water mopping but you might have to sand and refinish to seal in the odor.

Although pets are wonderful, irresponsible pet owners are not. I would not allow tenants to have a pet unless they put up a hefty deposit and a small fee per month to cover any potential damage.^^

  10. salt and lemon juice it is very good try it and warm-hot water
