  1. Although I have no experience with removing the printing, completely, or from a wet offset tin plate, I can tell you a few things about tin plate (I used to work in prepress, making printing plates).

When preparing plates for press operations, we used an acid spray/bath to remove material to leave the raised printing needed by our presses. The material was still vulnerable to scratches, and knocking letters loose etc.

My suggestion, being very careful not to burn yourself with chemicals, is to try a chemical etching compound, or other corrosive liquid. Of course, wear protective clothing, goggles, and gloves when doing this. Also be careful of sharp edges, they WILL cut, and you don't want acid getting in the cuts. Also be responsible in storing, and getting rid of these chemicals when you are done.

The tin plate is likely protected by a varnish or laquer. If it is used for canning, etc., they coat the tin, then print on it, then coat it again. You may have success with varnish or laquer removers, or other caustic chemicals. Tin is dissolved by a strongly alkaline solution, so be careful.

The tin is treated with a material that is sensitive to laser or light. It is then developed, like a photograph. You can go to the site below to ask specific questions about chemicals and processes. Also, Dupont makes a lot of the chemicals used in platemaking, and may offer some information.
