Please Help,

I am considering travelling overseas of 6 weeks, I have 4 impacting wisdom teeth, I have a small jaw and need to go under sedation in hospital. The major concern is if the recovery process, how long does it take? If anyone has ever gone overseas and travelled without having this done when they need to have it done, did anything happen.

BTW i am a scardy cat and really hate hospitals and needles.

  1. I just got my wisdom teeth out yesterday. From personal experience, I can say you should definitely wait a few days to a few weeks for your body to heal itself. It's a bit of a tough process depending on the person and you don't want your travels to ruined by an achy jaw and teeth. It all depends, really... Are your wisdom teeth already grown in or are they below the gum? If they have to cut in to your gum and dig to get them, it's always a lot more of a worse process and recovery time is longer.

Hope I helped, tell me how it goes.

  2. Go for your trip and come back. You never know the complications that might arise from the procedure. Most people have to be put under now. All four of my teeth were impacted, I had them out about 3 years ago. The main recovery is about a week, for the eating and swelling and pain. But some people have complications, like the holes not closing up well etc, and sometimes need to go back to the ortho surgeon. My suggestion is that going on a trip after having it done may be a bad decision, because something could go wrong. I would wait at least a month before traveling to another country after surgery. Take care of everything, make sure you change the gauze after your surgery, and I used frozen veggie bags and wrapped them in a towel and tied it to my head and alternated changing that, it worked well. You will do just fine, everyone goes through it, the doctor knows what he is doing,  no need to be scared.

  3. I think you should get them done AFTER you travel. It took me one full week for the swelling alone to go away....then you have to wait for the holes to close up so eating is tricky (I wouldn't want to worry about that  while traveling)

I had all 4 of mine pulled out at once and it took 45 minutes

anyway, I don't know how much your wisdom teeth is bothering you now, but if you can wait then you should

  4. Impacted teeth must be done by Oral Surgeon. Cure time depends on patients.

If I were you, do it before traveling overseas and rest. With proper medication, you will be fine. They will give you after extraction guidelines.

Help yourself to relax it's easier for you and for your dentist as well.

    Good Luck!

  5. Assuming you can get them extracted in the next two weeks, a month should be plenty of time to heal.  The cost and inconvenience of having them removed overseas if they flare up would be worse.

  6. Get it after.

Trust me u will be im 2 much pain to go on vacation.
