Question:

Remove Algae on pool?

I have one of those self set soft side pools. The 18 foot one. We went on vacation and the pool pump did not get ran and the filter didn't get changed. I neglected the pool this year and algae became a problem. I worked for hours sucking the loosened algae out of the pool. brushing and brushing and decided the best way to fix my problem was to empty the pool. I now have a empty pool in my back yard, most of the algae is gone, however there is still A LOT of algea dried / stuck to the pool.

Any suggestions on the best way to get rid of this algea. Brush it off and use something to suck it up? Is there a safe cleaner to use with a rag or something and just wipe it off?

It is mainly green and crusty. I would like to get it back up ASAP because the temp is so high here in TX we miss our pool.

Thanks for your help.

  1. The best thing is to scrub it and mop it out and for the first fill just increase the Chlorine level a little. After a couple of days after filling , throw some alum in there and vacuum that out the next day but don't put that through the filter, just vacuum to waste.

  2. after you refill your pool put some algacide in it that way the alga wont come back

  3. use a bleach solution deluted ,brush your walls down and rinse them down good, when you fill the pool back up,try a little chlorine in the water and that should take care of it

  4. Fill it back up with water and carefully put in 5 gals of liquid chlorine and very separately

add one half gallon of muriatic acid and let the water circulate until its clean. Before you hurt yourself or others, read this simple page -
